LegCo elections: two elected, two vacancies remain

​The House of Keys has elected two new Members of the Legislative Council. At a special sitting of the House on Monday 16th March 2015 Mr Bill Henderson, proposed by Hon Eddie Teare MHK, and Mr David Cretney, proposed by Hon John Shimmin MHK, achieved the number of votes required by the Isle of Man Constitution (Elections to Council) Act 1971 and were duly elected. 

Four vacancies on the Legislative Council had arisen following the expiry on 28th February 2015 of the terms of office of Mr Philip Braidwood, Mr Dudley Butt, Mr Alan Crowe and Mr Alex Downie. With two vacancies having been filled, two remain. At the end of Monday’s sitting the Speaker of the House of Keys, the Hon Stephen C. Rodan SHK, called for fresh nominations. Members of the House of Keys must submit these in writing to the Secretary or Deputy Secretary of the House by 5pm on Thursday 16th April 2015. The next election will be held at a special sitting of the House on Wednesday 6th May 2015. 

Meanwhile a special sitting of the Legislative Council was held on Tuesday 17th March 2015 at which the two new members of the Legislative Council were sworn in by His Honour David Doyle, First Deemster and Clerk of the Rolls.
