Freedom of Information
Isle of Man residents are able to put in requests for information held by public authorities. A disclosure under FOI is deemed to be a disclosure to the world, increasing the amount of information available to Isle of Man citizens and paving the way to a more transparent Government.
How to make a FOI request
The Freedom of Information Act 2015 was extended to all Government Departments and the Clerk of Tynwald's Office from 1st January 2017.

Your right to request a review
If you are unhappy with the response to your Freedom of Information request, you may ask us to carry out an internal review of the response, by completing a complaint form and submitting it electronically or by delivery/post. Your review request should explain why you are dissatisfied with this response, and should be made as soon as practicable. We will respond as soon as the review has been concluded.

Your personal information
The Clerk of Tynwald's Office is subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2015. Personal data is collected in order to undertake this function. Any personal data you provide to the Office of the Clerk of Tynwald will be processed in accordance with the provisions of for the Data Protection Act 2018 for the purposes of processing your request and for contacting you as necessary in connection with its processing.
Our legal basis for processing your information when you make a request is:
- Article 6(1)(c) Legal obligation of the Applied GDPR applies, that the processing is necessary for the Department to comply with the law (not including contractual obligations).
- Article 6(1)(e) Public Task of the Applied GDPR applies, that the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.
We need your information in order to process and respond to you directly about your request and in some cases we may request proof of residency so that we comply with the FOI legislation.
- Where you submit a request via https://www.gov.im/foi your personal information will be held on an external casework system (iCasework) for processing and audit purposes.
- Your personal contact information will be used only for the purposes for which it was provided; where you provide additional personal information to the Office of the Clerk of Tynwald it will be used only for the purposes for which it was provided.
- Your personal data used to process your Freedom of Information request is retained for 12 months. Other data created to process your Freedom of Information request is retained for three years in accordance with our draft retention policy.
- We do compile and publish statistics showing information like the number of FOI requests we receive, but not in a form which identifies anyone.
- Your personal data may be transferred in accordance with our draft retention policy.
