Tynwald Day 2014
‘The landscaping of Cooil y Ree symbolises aspects of the Island’s Celtic and Viking past, making the park a fitting setting for welcoming a gathering of present-day “Vikings” to share in our national day celebrations and offer an insight into a people whose influence endures to this day.

Vikings will be gathering in St John’s over Tynwald Day weekend and setting up camp in Cooil y Ree. The encampment, one of the highlights of the attractions on offer as the Island celebrates its national day on July 7th, will provide visitors with an opportunity to learn about the Vikings’ way of life – from the weapons they used to the clothes they wore and the food they ate – hear accounts of Viking sagas and, on Tynwald Hill on Tynwald Day from 10.00 to 10.30pm, witness a son et lumière re-enactment titled ‘The Thing (assembly) 979AD’, an interpretation of what the first Tynwald might have looked like.
As Island of Culture 2014 celebrations continue, Manx music and culture will take centre stage with local and visiting musicians from Germany and Menorca performing throughout the day, while the free-to-enter Manx Tent will showcase many fascinating aspects of the Island’s rich cultural heritage and play host to organisations including the World Manx Association and Yn Chruinnaght.
Creative workshops have long been a feature of Tynwald Day attractions and in honour of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Archibald Knox, one of the most influential figures in the art nouveau movement in the British Isles, the Bunscoill’s ‘Take Part in Art’ programme will include an opportunity for children to produce a mosaic inspired by his work.

Bribery Act 2013 which provides for offences relating to bribery.
Fisheries (Amendment) Act 2013 which makes minor amendments to the Fisheries Act 2012.
Weeds (Amendment) Act 2013 which updates the Weeds Act 1957.
Regulation of Care Act 2013 which makes new provision about the regulation of care services and social care workers and provides for a Departmental fostering service.
Sunbeds Act 2013 which regulates the use of sunbeds.
Flood Risk Management Act 2013 which makes provision about flood risk management and land drainage and amends certain Acts about water and sewerage.
Summary Jurisdiction and Miscellaneous Amendments Act 2013 which amends the Summary Jurisdiction Act 1989 and makes minor amendments to other Acts.
Custody (Amendment) Act 2013 which amends the Custody Act 1995 to expand the range of samples that may be obtained from a person detained.
Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2014 which amends the law about income tax.
Public Health (Amendment) Act 2014 which makes fresh provision about the control of disease.
Foreign Companies Act 2014 which requires certain foreign companies and other bodies with legal personality to register in the Island.
Ceremony and Guests
The traditional Tynwald Day ceremony begins officially around 09.45 when the participants in the parade assemble at St John's School ready to march up to line the processional way. The Lieutenant Governor arrives just after 10.30 and receives the Royal Salute and inspects the Guard of Honour before laying a wreath on the War Memorial. Following the service the outdoor part of the ceremony begins with processions to Tynwald Hill. During the ceremony on the Hill the Acts are promulgated, Coroners are sworn in and there is an opportunity to present Petitions for Redress. Those assembled then process back to the church for sittings of Tynwald, during which the Acts are captioned, and the House of Keys. Petitions of Redress
There are two ways to submit a petition to Tynwald, a public petition and a Petition for Redress.
There is a page on the public website designed to guide anyone through the process. In all cases the Petitioner should contact the Clerk of Tynwald to ensure the petition is in good order.

What's On and Entertainment
The Vikings come to Tynwald in 2014 at a Viking Camp in Cooil y Ree before re-enacting the very first Tynwald Ceremony of 979AD at 22:00 near to the hill.
The Bunscoill's Take Part in Art returns for its third year as well as some familiar faces such as the Manx Folk Dance Society, Jem the Juggler and the Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums will be performing throughout the day and evening. As usual Kipperceili leads the annual Tynwald Day Ceili.
2014 Manx National Week
Manx National Week runs from 5th July - 13th July 2014 and includes the Manx National Day - Tynwald Day on 7th July.
