As the Island prepares for its National Day on Friday 5^th July, local community organisations and traders are also getting ready to undertake their part in the traditional Tynwald Day festivities.

Running alongside the formal proceedings on the Hill is the opportunity to celebrate Island life at the traditional fair on the Back Fairfield. There will be a variety of stalls on display from people and communities across the Island. The Fairfield is open to the public from 9am to 5pm and represented will be local charities and youth groups, artisans selling handmade goods, games and rides for children, and as always there will be the opportunity to purchase something delicious to eat from local food vendors.

After the Tynwald Ceremony, family friendly events continue to be the focus for the afternoon with a wide range of attractions and entertainment across St John’s including the return of the Global Village in the Arboretum, the popular Viking encampment in Cooil-y-Ree, the beautiful Grand Manx Dance on the Front Green and impressive performances by musicians in the Chapel. All are free and everyone is welcome.

For those who prefer to get involved in an activity, join in a craft workshop in the TynwaldFest tent from 10am until mid-afternoon. A Manx Traditional Music session gets the TynwaldFest afternoon to a musical start followed by an amazing line up of performers this year. The Enthusiasts, Mine’s a Shanty, The Reveillettes, SambaMann, and The Awesome Party Band are all scheduled to play and will be accompanied by food and drinks on-site from 3.30pm.

The traditional evening entertainment will be from the very popular Kipperceili Band where everyone can have a try of some Ceili dancing. Our National Day culminates at 10pm with the focus back once again on Tynwald Hill where Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums will play the Manx National Anthem.

Parking

Free parking is available at St John’s. Please obey all traffic restrictions and follow all directions given by the Scouts who assist with traffic management on the day.

Blue Badge holders wishing to attend Tynwald Day may reserve a parking pass entitling them to a reserved space at the Old Farmers Arms car park (also known as the Old Railway Line car park). For enquiries, telephone 685500.
