​On Saturday February 28th 2015 the terms of office of four MLCs, Mr Dudley Butt, Mr Phil Braidwood, Mr Alex Downie and Mr Alan Crowe will expire. The Speaker of the House of Keys, the Hon Steve Rodan SHK, has given notice that a special sitting of the House of Keys will take place at 10am on Monday March 16th 2015 at which elections to the Legislative Council will be held. Members of the public may attend.Current legislation requires that the House fill the resultant vacancies by electing persons to the Legislative Council. Members must submit their proposal(s) in writing to the Secretary of the House by 4.30pm on Friday 27th February 2015. Candidates need not themselves be current or former MHKs, but must have the support of 13 MHKs to be elected.

The formal call for nominations was issued on Wednesday 28th January 2015 by Mr Speaker.
