General Election: call for evidence
21/10/2016A new Tynwald Committee is seeking views on what lessons can be learned from the recent General Election and what improvements can be made for the future.
On Tuesday 18th October 2016 it was resolved in Tynwald “That a committee of five Members be appointed with powers to take written and oral evidence pursuant to sections 3 and 4 of the Tynwald Proceedings Act 1876, as amended, to consider all aspects of the organization and operation of the General Election 2016; and to make recommendations for future practice in elections to the House of Keys; and to report no later than the April 2017 sitting of Tynwald.”
The Members elected to the Committee were Mr Ashford, Miss Bettison, Mrs Caine, Mr Cretney and Mr Perkins. The Committee has elected Mr Cretney as its chair.
The Committee would like to invite written submissions from anyone who would like to comment on this matter, noting that Committees may publish evidence. Submissions should be sent by Friday 18th November 2016 to the address below. E-mail is preferred but hard copy is equally acceptable.
