First Report of Hospital Overspend Inquiry
15/01/2018The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has today published the initial report in its inquiry into the budgetary overspend in the Department of Health and Social Care, particularly at Noble’s Hospital. The Chairman, The Hon. Juan Watterson SHK said, ‘We have expedited the publishing of this report in light of recent events which provides information that Members may find useful when considering the motions relating to the Department of Health and Social Care tabled for the January sitting of Tynwald. The PAC has been examining this area for the last year. It is a significant undertaking, as we have attempted to unpick the issues of a very large and complicated area of public spending. Despite this, we have identified a number of areas for improvement in order to assist future Ministers and Members in implementing the strategy, and to help set in place the right governance and systems to deliver the outcomes of an effective and efficient health service that is needed by the Manx people.”
“It is important that these essential building blocks are in place before we move on to other areas within Noble’s such as staffing, quality, benchmarking, spending and communication, and we welcome public views on these areas.”
A copy of the report can be accessed on the Public Accounts Committee website homepage.
The Members of the Public Accounts Committee are The Hon. Juan Watterson SHK (Chair), Mr Tim Crookall MLC (Vice-chair), Mr David Cretney MLC, Mr Michael Coleman MLC and Mrs Jane Poole Wilson MLC. Mr Rob Callister MHK as a former Departmental Member, gave evidence in relation to this inquiry and so did not take part in the production of the report.
