The Isle of Man branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is looking to select one young person to travel to Sydney to represent Tynwald at the 13^th Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP13) 2026.

CYP13 will be held from 26 to 31 July 2026 and hosted by the Parliament of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. The theme of CYP13 is Democracy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.

This is a key youth event in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association calendar, and the Isle of Man branch of the CPA will fund all travel and accommodation expenses for the selected participant.

What to expect

This opportunity brings together young people with diverse personal experiences for a unique, immersive experience in parliamentary democracy.

Participants will take part in parliamentary debates, committee work, leadership sessions, and build connections with like-minded peers, while supported by experienced parliamentary officials.

I am interested – can I apply?

Yes! As one of up to 66 young people representing parliaments from across the Commonwealth, you will need to be confident and articulate, with an interest in the Commonwealth, political affairs, or public service, and have the drive to represent our Island on an international stage. You must be an Island resident, or have attended school on the Isle of Man, and be aged 18–29 at the time of the event.

How can I apply?

To be considered, you need to submit an email of no more than 200 words, before midnight on Sunday 22nd March 2026, setting out:

(a) how you would personally benefit from attending the Commonwealth Youth Parliament; and

(b) how the Isle of Man would benefit from your participation.

Please note that participants must be willing and able to travel to Australia between 24 July – 2 August, dependent on travel dates, with a passport valid for at least six months beyond these dates. UK and Isle of Man passport holders currently require a visa to enter Australia.

What is the CPA?

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) is one of the oldest established organisations in the Commonwealth. Founded in 1911, it is a membership association which brings together Members, irrespective of gender, race, religion or culture, who are united by community of interest, respect for the rule of law and individual rights and freedoms, and by the pursuit of the positive ideals of parliamentary democracy. The Isle of Man Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association was formed in 1937.

About the Commonwealth Youth Parliament

The CYP is held every two years in a different Commonwealth region.

The week long Commonwealth Youth Parliament provides a key development opportunity for young people from the Commonwealth with ambitions of public office and is designed to demonstrate to potential future young Parliamentarians the fundamentals behind the processes of Parliament.
