Ann Corlett MHK to attend parliamentary conference in Gibraltar

05/10/2022

Ann Corlett MHK will represent the Isle of Man this week, along with Members of Parliament from across the CPA British Islands and Mediterranean Region, as she attends the 9th British Islands and Mediterranean Region Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Conference being held on 5th and 6th October 2022.

Building on ongoing engagement, the Conference will explore how to share good practice between women parliamentarians in the CPA British Islands and Mediterranean Region, including sessions on protection from Online Harms and how parliaments can do more to attract and retain women parliamentarians.

As one of ten elected female Members of the House of Keys, Mrs. Corlett will provide valuable insight to the programme, in particular during sessions focusing on Gender Sensitive Parliaments, asking if parliaments are doing enough to respond to the changing demographics of their elected representatives.

Mrs. Corlett will also be speaking at a public outreach session with local communities under the topic of understanding the barriers to women standing for parliament. This session is being held at the Governor’s residence in Gibraltar, The Convent.

The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians of the British Islands and Mediterranean Region of the CPA have enjoyed close ties since the establishment of a Steering Committee in 2013.  Since 2014 it has held annual conferences to maintain focus on the key objective of increasing the number of women parliamentarians across the region.

Further information about the event can be found on the CPA’s website: www.uk-cpa.org

All related costs will be published on the Tynwald website in due course.
