Purpose: To support the smooth and safe running of the sittings of Tynwald and the Branches and other associated duties.

Main duties and responsibilities
The Tynwald Administration Office supports the smooth and safe running of the sittings of Tynwald and the Branches. Tynwald is to be as accessible to the public as possible: it is their Parliament and they have a right to attend its public sittings. The post holder will do all they can to welcome members of the public and guests and to support Tynwald Members and Officers during sittings.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
a. Preparation of the Chambers for a sitting (including a security check of the Chamber prior to admitting the public).
b. Welcoming the public to the Chambers and assisting them where possible.
c. Providing security checks of the public on entry.
d. Carrying confidential messages to Members during sittings.
e. Assisting the Clerks, as requested, during sittings.
f. Provision of refreshments to Members in the Chambers during sittings.
g. Ceremonial duties on Tynwald Day at St Johns.
The post holder may also be asked to carry out extra duties such as:
h. Occasional cover for building security during evening functions, or providing reception cover for public committees;
i. Special sittings of Tynwald or the Branches which have not been scheduled in accordance with the Standing Orders of Tynwald or its Branches and not advertised in advance on the Tynwald website;
j. Leading tours for visitors to Legislative Buildings.
Full training for post-holder duties will be provided by the Seneschal.
The successful candidate

· be confident when dealing with members of the public and Members of Tynwald;
· have a flexible approach to working, including undertaking additional duties by agreement.
Terms and conditions of employment
This role is remunerated on PSC Pay Band 2, Spine Point 11 (FTE 0.2) (currently £3,977.60 per annum) which is paid in 12 equal monthly payments of £331.46 on 25th of each month. The post is not superannuable.
Sittings are scheduled in accordance with the Standing Orders of Tynwald Court, the House of Keys and Legislative Council. Ordinarily, sittings are held each Tuesday and, when required, on the third Wednesday and Thursday of each month, but not during August and September. A schedule of sittings is published in advance on the Tynwald website.
The post holder is required to be available to work every scheduled sitting of the House of Keys, Legislative Council and Tynwald (including Tynwald Day). On each sitting day the post holder will start at 8.30 am and work until the sitting finishes; this is usually by 5.30 pm, apart from the monthly Tynwald sittings when the sittings can run into the evening. The post holder will have an hour for lunch and an additional short break before an evening session, if Tynwald is sitting late. There is no overtime provision for working evenings on Tynwald sitting days.
Occasionally, Tynwald or the Branches sit on other days than the ones scheduled. In these circumstances, you may be asked to attend a sitting as an extra duty. There is no requirement to attend these extra sittings.
There is no annual leave entitlement with this post as the post holder will only work during the times Tynwald and its Branches are in session. However, a single period of unpaid leave per annum may be mutually agreed with the Seneschal.
You will receive additional payment for any extra duties you perform; for example, the type of duty set out at h) to j) above. Extra duties will be arranged by agreement between a Tynwald Officer or the Seneschal and the post holder. There is no requirement to agree to a request to work an extra duty. Pay for extra duties will be at the rate of £11.20 per hour.
