Youth Observance of Commonwealth Day
Tynwald applies for two places at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Secretariat’s Youth Observance of Commonwealth Day every year. Young people from the Isle of Man are asked to apply to attend this one day events which includes in the programme:
- Discussions on the Commonwealth and specifically on the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association with support from Commonwealth Parliamentarians to help with these discussions.
- Short debates or other presentations on current critical issues in the Commonwealth.
- Attendance at the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey where Her Majesty The Queen, as Head of the Commonwealth, will be present.
- Attendance at the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s (CSG) evening reception in the presence of Her Majesty.
When advertised, applications are invited from any young person aged 18 to 25 years old. The Executive Committee of the Isle of Man branch of the CPA nominate two young people from the anonymised applications. After the event the attendees are invited to the IOM Whole Branch meeting of CPA to share their experience with Tynwald Members.
