The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association will be running the first Virtual Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP) in December 2020. The Isle of Man Branch of the CPA would like to nominate two young people who are living on the Isle of Man or who have studied on the Isle of Man to attend.
The International Youth Parliament is an opportunity for Commonwealth young people to experience aspects of parliamentary democracy and provides a platform for them to establish links with like-minded peers. Formal parliamentary practice adapted from several Commonwealth countries will be followed and the proceedings will be observed under the watchful eyes of experienced parliamentary officials.
Representatives will participate in education sessions led by experienced parliamentary officials, take part in parliamentary proceedings including Question Period, and debate and vote on legislation and motions.
If you are aged 18-29, confident and articulate with an interest in the Commonwealth and political affairs, and would be interested in being considered, please apply by sending an e-mail before 4pm on Friday 20th November 2020 setting out in no more than 200 words:
(a) how you would benefit from the experience; and
(b) how the Isle of Man would benefit from your attendance at the event.
Send the email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: CYP 2020.
There is more information about previous CYP events online: https://www.tynwald.org.im/education/outreach/Pages/CYP.aspx
If you have any questions, before deciding whether to apply, please contact Ruth Donnelly, Head of the Chamber and Information Service.
