Draft Education Bill: teaching unions and home educators to give evidence

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee, a Standing Committee of Tynwald, is inquiring into the draft Education Bill which was issued for consultation by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture on 29th January 2019. The Committee has invited anyone with views on the draft Bill to write to it and has published a number of submissions on its webpage.

On 15th April 2019 the Committee took oral evidence from representatives of the Department of Education, Sport and Culture. The audio and transcript of that meeting are available on the Committee’s webpage.

The Committee will hear further oral evidence the draft Bill on Friday 14th June 2019 in the Legislative Council Chamber, Legislative Buildings, Bucks Road Douglas.  

The Committee will hear from the following at the times stated.

1.30pm – Mr Darren Northcott, NASUWT National Official (Education), Ms Geraldine O’Neill, NASUWT Isle of Man Secretary, and Mr David Trace, Association of School and College Leaders, Pay and Pensions  Officer Isle of Man.

2.30pm – Manx Home Education Association Representatives: Mr Damon Warr, Mrs Dianne Warr, Mr Derek Sewell and Mrs Dawn Sewell.

3.15pm – Mr Tristram Llewellyn Jones.

The members of the Committee appointed by Tynwald are Mr David Cretney MLC (Chairman), Mr Martyn Perkins MHK, and Ms Julie Edge MHK.

The evidence will be taken in public; members of the public are welcome to attend. The evidence can also be heard via the “live and listen again” audio webcast service on the Tynwald website.
