Social Affairs Policy Review Committee to take evidence

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee, a Standing Committee of Tynwald, will be taking oral evidence on Wednesday 13th April from the persons listed below at the times stated.

  • 2pm Dr Malcolm Couch (Chief Executive Officer), Ms Deborah Brayshaw (Director for Children and Families), and Ms Lisa Hall (Contracts and Business Manager), Department of Health and Social Care
  • 3.45pm Hon Tim Crookall MLC (Minister) and Professor Ronald Barr (Chief Executive), Department of Education and Children

The session will be held in the Legislative Council Chamber, Legislative Buildings, Bucks Road, Douglas. The evidence will be taken in public. Members of the public are welcome to attend, and the proceedings will also be streamed live via the Tynwald website.

Dr Couch, Ms Brayshaw and Ms Hall will be asked questions arising from first hand accounts which the Committee has heard of individuals’ experience of children’s social work, following the Committee’s announcement in November 2015. As explained in that announcement, the Committee will not take a view on any individual case and will not liaise with the Department regarding any individual case. The Committee is interested in the impact on children and families when social workers investigate referrals, and when they process assessments and inquiries.

The Minister for Education and Children and his Chief Executive will be asked questions on a range of topics within their Departmental responsibilities.

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee, comprising Mr David Cretney MLC, Chair, the Hon Steve Rodan SHK and Mr Geoffrey Boot MHK, is one of three Standing Committees of Tynwald Court established in October 2011 with a wide scrutiny remit.

Jonathan King
Clerk of the Committee
