The President of Tynwald, the Hon Clare Christian, has presented the Lieutenant Governor Mr Adam Wood with a specially commissioned painting on behalf of Tynwald to mark the conclusion of His Excellency’s term of office.
The painting, which depicts a Manx shearwater, is by local artist Dr Jeremy Paul who said he was ‘honoured’ to have been commissioned to create a work for His Excellency who had been ‘very supportive’ of his work and had generously opened a number of his exhibitions during his time in office.
Madam President said: ‘His Excellency has served the people of the Isle of Man with dignity, enthusiasm and commitment. He has been a keen follower of proceedings in Tynwald and also highly supportive of our Island’s national and local community events.
‘Having noted his keen interest in bird watching, we have been pleased to present His Excellency with a painting of a seabird so closely associated with the Isle of Man, the Manx shearwater, which, we hope, will remind him of his time here.’
His Excellency is reported to have been ‘particularly touched’ to receive such a thoughtful gift.
