Towed caravans: DED and Chamber of Commerce to appear before Select Committee

​The Select Committee of Tynwald on Towed Caravans intends to take oral evidence on Monday 13th October 2014 from the persons named below at the times stated:

2.30pm:  Mr David Cretney MHK, Department Member, and Ms Angela Byrne, Head of Tourism, Department of Economic Development

3.15pm:  Jane Dellar, Chief Executive, and Sara Richards, Chair of Tourism Committee, IOM Chamber of Commerce

The evidence will be taken in public in the Legislative Council Chamber; members of the public are welcome to attend. The evidence will also be audio streamed live on the Tynwald website and will be available to listen again after the hearing.

This will be the first public hearing before this Select Committee, which was appointed on 17th June 2014 after Tynwald agreed to the following resolution:

That a Committee of three Members be appointed with powers to take written and oral evidence pursuant to sections 3 and 4 of the Tynwald Proceedings Act 1876, as amended, to consider and to report to Tynwald about the likely advantages and disadvantages of encouraging towed caravan use on the Island, with special reference to the possibilities for the encouragement of tourism, the utility or otherwise of creating a non-residential caravan park and the need for regulating the entry on to the island and usage of caravans.

The Members elected to the Committee by Tynwald are Mr Geoff Corkish MLC, Mr Alex Downie MLC and Mr David Quirk MHK. The Committee elected Mr Downie as its chair.
