The Office of the Clerk of Tynwald invites expressions of interest from individuals wishing to participate in an outside team of ad hoc Hansard reporters, as part of exciting plans to expand Tynwald’s international Hansard services.
The current in-house Hansard team produces ‘essentially verbatim’ Official Reports not only for Tynwald and its branches, but also for Gibraltar and two of the Channel Islands. Several other jurisdictions are now interested in taking up these services, making it necessary to identify potential ad hoc reporters to meet demand.
The work involves highly accurate transcription and strictly limited editing to create Hansard reports of speeches by members during their parliamentary sittings. Each project will be demand led and deadline driven; interested participants need to be able to commit time according to the date and length of each sitting. They will be required to provide their own workspace and computer, submitting invoices to the Hansard office for payment at an agreed rate.
Clerk of Tynwald, Roger Phillips said: ‘This is an extremely exciting opportunity to bring both work and income to the Island and to enhance Tynwald’s reputation as an innovative, modern democratic assembly which plays a strong outward-looking role in parliamentary co-operation around the world. We envisage the work will particularly suit professional people whose circumstances now allow them time to work from home during the day, as and when required.’
Expressions of interest will be welcomed in the form of a current CV with a covering letter and must be received by 5.00 p.m. on Friday, 31st October 2014.
