Domestic Rating System: oral evidence in public

​The Select Committee of Tynwald on the Domestic Rating System (Petition for Redress) intends to take oral evidence from the following persons on the dates and at the times stated:

Monday 9th June 2014:

3.00pm Mr David Buttery

3.45pm Mr Clive McGreal and Mr Andrew Wallis, Treasury

Friday 27th June 2014:

10.30am Mr David Talbot, a local authority Commissioner and Vice Chair, the Municipal Association

11.30am Mr Richard Ronan MHK and Mr Kevin Gillespie, representatives of the Department of Infrastructure with responsibility for local government

The evidence will be taken in public in the Legislative Council Chamber; members of the public are welcome to attend. The evidence will also be audio streamed live on the Tynwald website and will be available to listen again after the hearing.

It was resolved on 19th March 2014 –

That a committee of three Members be appointed with powers to take written and oral evidence pursuant to sections 3 and 4 of the Tynwald Proceedings Act 1876, as amended, to consider and to report to Tynwald by October 2014 on the Petition for Redress of Mr David Buttery presented at St John’s on 6th July 2009 in relation to replacing the domestic rating system with a fair local services tax.

The Members elected to the Committee were Mr Alfred Cannan MHK, Mrs Brenda Cannell MHK and Mr Chris Thomas MHK. The Committee has elected Mr Thomas as its chair.

The Committee has already invited written submissions from local authorities and other stakeholders. Members of Tynwald and the public who would like to submit any comments or suggestions to the Committee should write to the Committee Secretariat by 20th June 2014, using the contact details below.
