Other Parliamentary Events
Outreach events are held all over the world supporting education and involvement in parliamentary activities. The Isle of Man branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) encourages young people to take part in these events and where possible, will pay for travel and accommodation to these events.
UK House of Lords Chambers Event
As part of its outreach programme, the UK House of Lords opens its chamber once a year to non-members for debate. The aim of the intergenerational event is to provide an educational and enjoyable experience to members of the UK public that would otherwise not have the opportunity to engage with the House of Lords.
Participants will choose to argue in favour of one of three motions, each taking a particular angle on the debate. The theme in 2017 is: What are the challenges for International Relations in the 21st Century?
The Isle of Man Branch of the CPA will fund one student to travel to London to take part in the event on 1st December 2017. Invitations have been sent to Isle of Man university students who are currently studying in Great Britain asking for applications.
Please note that there will be several training days offered at venues around the UK in the lead up to the event. Unfortunately financial assistance to travel to attend these events cannot be provided.
