The Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee, a Standing Committee of Tynwald, is currently investigating legal services on the Island. This inquiry is an amalgam of the previously announced inquiry into the regulation of legal services in the Isle of Man, with reference to the role of the Law Society and, in particular, the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal and the more recently announced inquiry into the process of becoming a Manx advocate. This inquiry will include consideration of the proposed Public Defender’s Unit.
The Committee will hear evidence on this topic on Monday 15th October at 11.15am from Jane O’Rourke, former Chief Executive Officer of the Isle of Man Law Society.
The hearing will take place in public in the Legislative Council Chamber, Legislative Buildings, Bucks Road, Douglas. Members of the public are welcome to attend; proceedings will also be streamed live via the Tynwald audio webcasting service.
The Committee was established by Tynwald in October 2017. The Members elected to the Committee are Mrs Jane Poole-Wilson MLC (Chair), Mr Lawrie Hooper MHK, and Mr Chris Robertshaw MHK.
