Tynwald Court has conveyed its congratulations to the Queen, Lord of Mann on her Diamond Jubilee with the presentation by the President of Tynwald, the Hon Clare Christian MLC on behalf of the Court, of an illuminated address to His Excellency Lieutenant Governor Mr Adam Wood for onward transmission to Her Majesty.
Members of the House of Keys and the Legislative Council together with His Honour First Deemster Doyle and senior members of the Manx judiciary attended the special sitting of Tynwald Court on Tuesday May 22nd 2012 presided over by Madam President who spoke of Her Majesty’s ‘unremitting sense of duty and selflessness’ that had underpinned 60 years of service to the people of the Isle of Man and the Commonwealth. Madam President remarked that Her Majesty had ‘emerged as a remarkable example to us all’ and, in presenting the illuminated address to His Excellency, extended congratulations on behalf of all those present to Her Majesty on her Diamond Jubilee.
Seconding Madam President’s remarks the Speaker of the House of Keys, the Hon Steve Rodan SHK, said Her Majesty had ‘kept a measure of continuity and provided a continuing and unwavering sense of duty and purpose which has been an example to all of us,’ adding that ‘we can all be proud to have Elizabeth II as our Lord of Mann.’
Addressing the Court His Excellency Lieutenant Governor Mr Adam Wood said it would be an honour to present the address to Her Majesty for whom the Isle of Man ‘enjoys a special place in her heart’. In his closing remarks he echoed the sentiments of Madam President and Mr Speaker when he said he hoped Her Majesty’s reign would last ‘for many years to come.’
The illuminated address, created by local artist Colleen Corlett, will be presented to Her Majesty together with the Hansard record of the proceedings.

Note to editors:
The illuminated address by Colleen Corlett features a scroll border based on the Celtic chain design in blue and gold echoing that which features on the carpet of the Tynwald Court chamber, interspersed with images of the Arms of Her Majesty in right of the Isle of Man, the Royal cypher of Queen Elizabeth II and the Manx Sword of State. In the mid sections of the border are two stamps commissioned by the Isle of Man Post Office designed by Colleen Corlett. The foot of the address depicts Her Majesty the Queen, His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh and His Excellency Lieutenant Governor Sir John Paul attending the Tynwald Millennium celebrations in 1979 set against the Chapel of St John at Tynwald Hill. The address is headed by the Tynwald badge alongside the Royal Coat of Arms which, as with the other main headings, is finished in embossed gold leaf. The wording of the address is in English and Manx. It reads:
‘That this Court recognises the unparalleled service given by Her Majesty the Queen as Lord of Mann over the past sixty years, during which she has visited the Isle of Man, and in particular to celebrate the Millennium of Tynwald in 1979; expresses its gratitude to her for the leadership and example which she has given to her people on this Isle and throughout the Commonwealth; congratulates her on her Diamond Jubilee; and looks forward to many more happy years of her reign.’
